Canon Fodder: The Muggle Encyclopedia-M

While the staff is all insanely busy right now, I thought I’d spotlight another gem from the deep recesses of the Lexicon vaults.
The Muggle Encyclopedia holds treasures untold and I invite you to explore through its pages. Penny compiled this amazing resource of information that’s a wealth of insight into Jo’s “real world” influences, references and inspirations.
One of my personal favorites is the “M” page, because it holds a mix of curious quirky trivia and people very important in Jo’s life.
I have learned much from this section, I bet you’ll find it valuable too. :)

Ahhh. The Muggle encyclopedia. Most interesting and well researched.

I like it mostly because the town I am from and live (Arbroath) is in it, where JKR’s parents were both sent to be stationed and met enroute.

    What’s with the heading?
” Canon Fodder: The Muggle Encyclopedia – “M” ” A couple of rogue expressions here me-thinks?

LOL del! You caught me editing.
Rogue character has been Evanesco-ed. :D
Wow, how exciting to hear from someone in Arbroath!

I either haven’t looked at the Muggle Encyclopedia in so long that I had forgotten most of the information, or I haven’t looked it. Thanks for the reminder!

this page is specal as it has the murrays on.

  • Graymayne

Just browsed the A section and have an addition to the list of actors who were in “Sense and Sensibility” and also in Harry Potter & the Philosophers Stone. This is Elizabeth Spriggs who played the Fat Lady in the portrait at the entrance to Gryffindor’s common room. I miss her.

Love this section – only disapointed that Abergavenny was not mentioned (it’s near to where I live) and I always tell people I know Madam Marsh.

Ooh Graymayne, you’re right! and we should probably also update that to add the other films now, to include Imelda Staunton (Dolores Umbridge), Gemma Jones (Madam Pomfrey CS) and Patrick Doyle (composer GF). It’s fascinating to look at these fine actors and actresses and how many of them have worked together in other things, isn’t it!?

Joan! No need to be disappointed! Abergavenny is listed in the Gazetteer, because it is mentioned in the Wizarding World! :D Say Hi to Madam Marsh, next time you see her, the poor soul. hehe

“All Along the Watchtower” (Music Favorites on the “M” page) is by Bob Dylan.

  • http://www.hp-lexicon.org/about/sources/jkr.com/jkr-com.html Belinda

    Hi Richard!
Quite true that Bob Dylan wrote “All Along the Watchtower”, but it was Jimi’s version that Jo cited as one of her favorites in the interview for that book. Since Bob didn’t have a problem with Jimi’s recording of it, I doubt he’d be upset with our not crediting him too, but now folks will know thanks to your post. :)

I love that JKR loves the Requeim Mass, definitely one of my favorite classical songs, and then REM and the Beatles! She has such a vast, but amazing, taste in music.
