Dragonologist new WotM on JKR.com

With the new year comes a new Wizard of the Month… Harvey Ridgebit

This is a new canon character, but the Peruvian Vipertooth and the dragon sanctuary in Romania are not. So is this the reservation where Charlie works? Would Charlie’s occupation be Dragonologist then? hmmm…

Edit: At 9:30 pm EST Dec31, the copyright date in the site’s meta data was changed to 2007.
By 9 am Jan1st the date on the Biography journal had reverted to 2004.
Still no change on the FSA archive, or the copyright notices in the entry and exit flash screens.

On another note, Jo did not wish Tom Riddle a happy birthday this year, and she never has.

Shame she doesn’t — we’re still unsure if was born 12/31 or 1/1. Oh well: Supposed to be ambiguous, I guess . . . .

But I do hope that in 2007, she’ll give us the usual birthdays with some new additions!

  2. roonwit says:

The dates are a bit strange. The visible copyright date is still 2006 (and on the popups blocked page 2005), and I notice that the dates on the biography are back to 1965-2004.

  3. Belinda says:

I noticed that too, this morning roonwit! I wonder if she plans to leave the 2004 on the journal, at least until she adds to the contents? Maybe she is planning to tell more about her life since the books have been published?

  4. Domoor says:

It can be that her webmaster is a bit sloppy… :)

  5. Gara says:

What is the meta data, and where can it be seen?

  6. Gara says:

Oh, and regarding to birthdays, it seems she only wishes them for the living! (For example, we don’t knowm Dumbledore’s, Sirius’, or James’ birthdays, neither).

  7. Belinda says:

Domoor, Lightmaker is many things, but I wouldn’t say sloppy is one of them, haha… we’ve seen glitches before, but this doesn’t look like one to me. I think its intentional, but strange. (Maybe temporary)

Gara, the meta data is the hidden info that, say Google or screen readers, can see. In your browser click on View > Source to see the code.
Yes, we’ve speculated for a long time now that the names on the birthday calendar indicate survivors. But I think there is more to that. I think she doesn’t wish Happy birthday to the nasty characters (Dudley, Riddle, Bellatrix) whether they will survive or not. And she only posted wishes to characters that we knew before OotP because she was being careful about spoilers at that time, that’s why we don’t know Luna or Tonks, IMHO.

  8. roonwit says:

Bel: the date on the biography is either very well planned or a glitch. If you put your computer clock back to 2006 you see the 1965-2006 date.

  9. Belinda says:

That’s right roonwit! So I think we will know by tomorrow.
Perhaps Jo decided it was a bit silly to keep updating the date when the story inside never did. This way it would show that the bio inside is before the launch of the website, and events since then are to be found around the rest of the site? Just guessing here, but could be one reason.
Or they could have been setting it up to automatically change every year, and a glitch caused it to default back to the original. *shrugs*

  10. journeymom says:

I’m sorry, I’m missing why the copyright date is important. Also, why is the bio date important?

  11. roonwit says:

If they were going for an accurate date for the years covered, the end date would be something like 1996 or 1997, because it stops at the point when she gets the book accepted for pub;ication.

  12. Severus says:

Belinda, if it is true that Jo doesn’t post Birthdays for seemingly nasty characters, does that mean Draco and Snape are Good?

  13. El Cronista de Salem says:

but on FSA it only appeared 2004 last year, no? I have never seen 2005 or 2006 on the flash site, only in the text only site.

  14. Char says:

Who in their right mind would want to wish the most evil Dark wizard of all time a Happy Birthday?
