We have another new canon character from the WotM calendar on Jo’s site… Laurentia Fletwock.
We’ll be updating the relevant Lexicon areas shortly.

Lisa here: I have now updated the Wizards page with graphics (click for the fullsize version) and commentary on the possible name origins. Thanks to readers Cherry and SarahW — they beat me to some of the name origin information!

“Order of the Phoenix” Set Visit Report…almost!

Friday, November 24th, 2006

Oh, I wish I could tell you more. I wish I could convey the grandeur of the Ministry of Magic set or the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Jason Isaacs, David Heyman, Daniel Radcliffe, and many others.

So many wonderful people to meet, so many amazing places to explore, so many exciting stories to tell. Most of it has to wait until next summer. But now that the trailer is released, I am allowed to give you just a hint of what’s to come. So I’ve uploaded the first tiny teaser of my set report, which you’ll find here. And stay tuned…the full story is still to come.

Canon Fodder: The Muggle Encyclopedia-M

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

While the staff is all insanely busy right now, I thought I’d spotlight another gem from the deep recesses of the Lexicon vaults.
The Muggle Encyclopedia holds treasures untold and I invite you to explore through its pages. Penny compiled this amazing resource of information that’s a wealth of insight into Jo’s “real world” influences, references and inspirations.
One of my personal favorites is the “M” page, because it holds a mix of curious quirky trivia and people very important in Jo’s life.
I have learned much from this section, I bet you’ll find it valuable too. :)

Everything you ever wanted to know about: wizarding communication

Friday, November 10th, 2006

Before I fall asleep on my keyboard, here’s another old page I’ve just finished gutting and revamping – wizarding communication. Enjoy!

New page: owls owls owls!

Thursday, November 9th, 2006

This was another tangent that blew up into a two-day project, but we now have a new page with details on owl post and a newly edited page with lots of new information on owls. As always, send additions if you find them!

Improved Wizard Currency Converter

Sunday, November 5th, 2006

Yes, the exchange rates on the old one were out of date, so… I got out my wand and swished it a few times.
I hope you enjoy this updated version!
I’ve added a few more currencies from around the world, including the Romanian New Lei, the Bulgarian Lev, the Australian Dollar and another canon (ahem) currency we know. :D

By the way… should you get a result that reads NaN it stands for Not a Number.

Canon Fodder: Wizard Currency Converter

Friday, November 3rd, 2006

“Canon fodder” will be an intermittent series of posts about cool stuff that can be found in the dark corners of the Lexicon.

Wizard Currency Converter: Have you ever wanted to give a gift certificate in Galleons, Knuts and Sickles, but didn’t know the exchange rate? The Lexicon has a calculator that will convert dollars, pounds and euros to Galleons, Galleons to dollars, and so on. Bel has even used it to convert dollars to euros. What other fun ways can you think of to use it?

It was created by Niklas Åkerlund and modified by Ly_the_fairy.
