January
In January, the students return from their Christmas break. It is not
certain if the Hogwarts Express makes a January run. Harry and the others
who had been staying at 12 Grimmauld Place for Christmas in 1995 took the
Knight Bus back to school. The weather in January is very cold and some
classrooms can be very chilly, especially the Potions Dungeon. Quidditch
matches do take place during January, even though the weather is wet and
cold and sometimes stormy.
Important Events that Happened in January:
1993 - Hermione spent the entire month in the Hospital Wing, covered
in cat fur (CS)
1994 - Lupin starts teaching Harry the Patronus Charm (PA)
1995 - Rita Skeeter's article about Hagrid appears in the Quibbler
(GF)
1996 - Harry has his first Occlumency lesson, ten Death Eaters escape
from Azkaban, Broderick Bode is murdered in St Mungos. And that's just
in the first week. (OP)
June
Exams take place at the beginning of June, including two weeks of OWLs
and NEWTs for the fifth and seventh years. The weather is often warm and
sunny, making the exams that much more of a trial, since everyone would
rather be outside. When exams are finished, students have been known to
go down to the lake to swim and sunbathe. Toward the end of June is the
Leaving Feast where the House Cup is awarded. The students take the Hogwarts
Express back to Kings Cross in London at the end of the month.
Important Events that Happened in June:
1994 - Buckbeak's scheduled execution and the escape of Sirius Black
1995 - the third task of the Triwizard Tournament and Voldemort's rebirth
in a graveyard in Little Hangleton
1996 - the Battle of the Department of Mysteries and the return of
Voldemort - the Second War begins
