Bloomsbury,
whose Children's Book Division was under Barry Cunningham, acquired the
publication rights to PS for
£1,500 ($2,250). HarperCollins passed on the manuscript, not taking
the time to put a bid together and advising
Bryony Evens of the
Christopher Little Agency
to go with the Bloomsbury offer
(SS_JKRB).

she ever re-read.

Bournville Hotel
The Bournville Hotel is located in
Didsbury (a suburb of Manchester),
and JKR booked a room there one night after a "blazing row" with
her boyfriend. While there, to take her mind off of the argument, she
invented the game of
Quidditch. "I wanted a
sport for wizards, and I'd always wanted to see a game where there was
more than one ball in play at the same time. The idea just amused me. The
Muggle sport it most resembles is basketball, which is probably the sport
I enjoy watching most. I had a lot of fun making up the rules and I've
still got the notebook I did it in, complete with diagrams, and all the
names for the balls I tried before I settled on
Snitch,
Bludgers, and
Quaffle
(AOK1)."
The hotel is located at 148 Barlow Moor Road, M20 2UT.
