“Order of the Phoenix” Set Visit Report…almost!

Oh, I wish I could tell you more. I wish I could convey the grandeur of the Ministry of Magic set or the pleasure of meeting and chatting with Jason Isaacs, David Heyman, Daniel Radcliffe, and many others.

So many wonderful people to meet, so many amazing places to explore, so many exciting stories to tell. Most of it has to wait until next summer. But now that the trailer is released, I am allowed to give you just a hint of what’s to come. So I’ve uploaded the first tiny teaser of my set report, which you’ll find here. And stay tuned…the full story is still to come.

  • Damn Steve I’m reading the report now, and this is HUGE!! I can’t wait to see the family tree updated. Thanks for this!

  • Remi

WOW! I can only guess that you must’ve felt like Charlie walking into the Chocolate Factory for the first time (from the original movie) – how awesome for you! Great news about the Family Tree, but I’m more interested in Grawp being in the film (I was sure he wouldn’t make the cut) – does that mean he plays a more important role in the last book? And of course they’d refer to the Lexicon regularly; they’d be unwise not to. You’re the best source of canon info out there. Can’t wait for another teaser.

  • kzspot

That is so cool that they use the Lexicon everyday to check their facts!!!! Also a little nerveracking…..

  • Eeyore

Steve, I loved your report. And I can’t wait to hear all the details. That must have been such a fun day for you–and will be for us, when you can tell us all of it.

Jason Isaacs is so cool. I love it that he reads fan fic about himself and likes it. I’m not into fan fiction, but it’s great that he’s so involved in the whole Harry Potter world. Cool.

  • Starling

Brilliant, Steve. The entire report is going to be magnificent. And the Lexicon as reference? Whoa, indeed.

  • MarauderSandi

Your report is awesome, Steve! I can’t wait to read the rest of it! They’re using the Lexicon as reference–how cool is that?

    *is insanely jealous of Steve*

  • cassie

Great set report Steve. Also, really cool how they use the lexicon.

  • Finn

Steve, what a tease!! Now, on top of my movie excitement, I’m dying to find out what “changes” are happening and what else you did at your set visit!

PS David Heyman rocks my world now that I know he uses the Lexicon for reference… although it would have been nicer if it had been reflected a bit more in PoA and GoF… but I still have high hopes for OoP!

  • MarauderMeg

Wonderful! I can’t wait to hear more, and that’s SO COOL that they use the Lexicon.

Really now, they’d be silly not to. πŸ˜‰

  • Marauder Lyny

Wow! I’d say you are a lucky man, but I know that you work very hard for this, so I’ll say that you deserve it all : )

  • ruthmore

Thanks for the great report, Steve. I love the little details — like Umbridge getting pinker by the minute! Can’t wait to hear more!

  • Taj

I wish I could be you sometimes, Steve. Haha, seriously.

  • del

I don’t understand this. How can those who have been given special access to the filming not divulge anything not revealed in a 3 year old book?

Unless the plot from the book has been seriously altered? Not likely.

  • Astrella

Thanks for a great report, Steve. And the Lexicon is an incredible resource–I’m surprised you’re surprised that the pros (even Jo!) use it as well as us amateurs.

    Congratulations to you all.

  • Cristina

You definitely deserve this! I’m really happy for you! Can’t wait for your report!

  • moony

Steve, did you see the owlery? Did you have the chance to make some pictures or notes concerning the owls on the set? And another question: if the film and Rowling are using the lexicon on a daily basis, isn’t it a kind of problem the source and the lexicon are influencing each other? I mean: it’s correct the lexicon is consulted for checking out known information. But if the family tree is influenced by the information you collected, the distinction between source and lexicon becomes something … vague/dim? I hope I didn’t spoil your day.

  • El Cronista de Salem

I’m sure you had a great day πŸ™‚ congratulations.

As a lexicon fan, I can’t wait to see the full tapestry ^^ Jo is very cool for providing it to the producers.

  • Aberforth

Great report, Steve! I could imagine I was there with you. And you’ll understand which detail pleased me in particular πŸ™‚

  • John D.

I want to read the rest of the report and am looking forward to the final version of the black family tree

  • Steve

    Moony –
The Black Family Tree in the film was written by Rowling, according to David Heyman. So was the one that she drew for the auction some time back. The Lexicon has only reported the information as we found it. We were never the source.

  • beachcomber

    – – – – – tease!!! Give us MORE!!!

  • Minerva’s sister

Steve, you probably can’t hint, but…
I’m imagining the MoM as rather Art Deco-ish. Confirm? Deny? Plead the fifth??

  • El Cronista de Salem

So the tree of the movie is the same that the one of the auction, not enlarged? I was waiting the movie to see if there were new lines… but the one of the auction was great anyways.

*Aberforth, now that I’ve ocassion… Β‘thanks for your report of the black tree in the aution last february!!!*

  • Taj

what updates were made to the black family tree page? all that i noticed was that the birthyear for Cygnus Black, father of bellatrix, andromeda, and narcissa, was bumped back a decade…is that all so far? – not to sound impatient

  • Reader2

I’d like to join everyone in congratulating Steve.
    You defenitely deserved your trip.

And boy am I holding my breath to nest update.

I am glad to see that Cygnus’ date is chaged. Interesting, this makes him the same age as Orion.

And I see you now have a still of Natalia Tena as Tonks.
I was particularly looking forward to that one.

  • Hey Steve!

I’m so excited that you got a chance to go and visit the set of OotP. I wasn’t even aware that you were going. That is absolutely fantastic! I so wish I could have been there too!

After meeting you at Lumos and seeing your panel and presentations, I can picture you walking through the studio with an almost tangible hum of excitement. You are such a genuinely cool person and I’m so glad that you’ve taken time out of your life to both create and help maintain the Lexicon. And it’s really great that you’re given opportunities to further your knowledge of canon outside of the actual books. We simply can’t get enough of this magical world that Rowling has presented us, and your enthusiasm for both your own knowledge and passing that knowledge on to us only makes it sweeter to learn about.

Thank you for doing what you do, and thank your staff for working like house-elves, and please extend our thanks to your connections to the ‘powers-that-be’ for allowing your site visit, and all future ‘field-trips’!

    Yours truly,

A fan who’s looking forward to seeing and possibly working with you at Prophecy 2007!

    Kari Phillips

  • Avis

Oh cruel tease! Now I can’t wait for July even more… but I’ll settle for more Lexicon reports. πŸ™‚

Awesome that you got to visit the Magic Factory, Steve: you deserve it!

  • MamaZoe

Was Walburga (Sirus’ mother) *really* born in 1925, when her father, Pollux, was only 13? 1937 or so would’ve made more sense….

  • John D.

wow aberforth.. thank you for the first version of the family tree.. You will be remembered in HP fandom community forever… just like Steve

  • qwertyuiop

wowzers!i can only imagine how you felt when he said he uses the lexicon every day.

  • Sabrina Black

Thats totally brilliant!! I can’t believe you were there…you must have really felt something special. Bit nerve racking have them all checking out the sites all the time but wicked none the less! πŸ™‚

  • Cricket

Well done. I enjoy coming here and reading bits and pieces every so often.
Jason Isaacs reads the fanfics? LOL.

In reading about him and Tom Felton, they just seem like really decent people…who happen to have these kewl jobs in bringing a fantasy to life.

  • Capella

I guess Pollux’s date of birth is right!- JKR simply hasn’t told us yet that he stumbled across an ageing potion soon after joing Hogwarts and ended up older than half the teachers. He can’t be the first 13 year old who wanted to add a few years!

  • This is fantastic!!! I was guided to your page by a member of a Jason Isaacs fan group, but me being probably more of a fan of HP than of JI, I’m really glad to be able to read this account! (Naturally, I’m especially interested in hearing about your chat with Mr. Isaacs, however!)

OotP continues to be my favorite book of the series, so I can hardly wait to see this film. I’m sure it will be smashing!

Great work, Steve! Good onya! And thanks so much for sharing your adventure!

  • Reader2

    Another observation regarding the Tree.

Isn’t it strange that Regulus, Orion and Cygnus all died the same year?

  • patience

OMG! Now my excitement over OOtP is greater than ever. I so envy you, steve, you lucky duck! And thank you so much for this update!

  • Aberforth

Reader2: it strikes me as more than coincidence that Orion and Cygnus died in the same year as Regulus. This was at the height of Voldy War I, so deaths were commonplace, but Sirius implies his parents got cold feet after supporting the Dark Lord at first …..

  • Amy

I love Lexicon and am regarded as somwhat of a Harry Potter expert, and about 75% of the credit must go to this site!

  • Katie

O.M.G. That’s so cool. About the David Heyman/refers to Lexicon thingy. And everything else, too. The Lexicon is so cool; I write fanfiction and use it 24/7, sometimes literally! Keep up the great work!

  • Oh, Steve, can I TOUCH you!!?? I did a little dance of joy on your behalf when I read what David Heyman said, and although I’m almost jealous enough to turn Slytherin green, you so totally deserve it for all the work that you and your team do! The site rocks!!

  • freshwater

Kudos and congrats, Steve, for the recognition –well overdue– of this wonderful resource. It’s about time the moviemakers discovered the benefits of lexicon surfing. I’ve no doubt at all that Jo herself recommended the site to them.

  • liv parkinson

that’s so cool that they use lexicon all the time! now that I’ve heard some of the details I CAN’T WAIT for OotP!!!

  • liv parkinson

you guys are SO cool and SO lucky that you get to meet those people! I’m jealous, but hey, you deserve it with all the stuff you do for lexicon!!!

  • Meg

God! What did you do to get THE BEST JOB IN THE WORLD?!?! You should do an interview with JKR for the lexicon, seriously. I really think that you deserve this, your essays are something that I use for reference alot. Do you get to meet Gary Oldman and Alan Rickman? Helena Bonham Carter(I love her work, but I’m not sure if I spelled her name right)? I really hope that you get to meet the set/coustume designers, their work never ceases to astound!

  • Wow! Did you get to actually talk to Tom Felton? I’m madly in love with him, actually. I admire your essays on Harry Potter and your site is the best.

  • Cool! Can’t wait till tree is updated.

  • i love harry potter and even tho i hate umbridge i cant wait to see the 5th film!!!

  • Cecelia Plata

Can’t wait for the movie to come out!

  • Angela Alvarez

I’ve searched and searched for the set report part II, but have never found it. Does it not exist? Anyone know?

  • rory

    POTTER ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Hey!…Man i just love your blog, keep the cool posts about almost! comin..holy Friday .

  • Northerner

I thought that Rowling made an extended Black family tree for the film, having two generations extra or so, but no extra name has been added, was there no new names?

  • Daniel Radcliffe is much older now, i wonder what would be his future roles on future movies`-.

  • Harry Potter is the best, i really like Daniel Radcliffe because he acts very well ‘“
