What's New

In Search of Harry Potter

I am delighted to let you all know that my book In Search of Harry Potter is on the shelves. The book was published by Methuen Publishing in London and is now available in shops in Britain. From what I’ve been told, it should be in the stores in the US in a few weeks. In the meantime, it’s available from Amazon.

I’ve had quite a few questions about the book, so I’ve put together a page about it which I hope will be helpful. If you have further questions, feel free to send me an email.

The book is hardcover and illustrated with my photographs throughout. The material in the book is best described as a first-person travel memoir. I didn’t include information directly from the Lexicon website with the exception of a couple of essays by Ravenclaw Rambler for which he gave me permission. The cover and the maps were created by Camilla Engelby, a good friend and fellow Harry Potter fan.

Congratulations, Steve. I look forward to purchasing the book and having it sit on the shelf next to my HP books and audiobooks. It will be the only non-JKR authored book to have that place of honor.

Did you by any chance go looking near Pendle when you were over here in the UK?? That area has a very rich history of witchcraft

  • I didn’t, unfortunately. But I’m already making a list of new places to go if I decide to do a revised and enlarged edition!

  • Vicky

please, update the website! good luck with your book, but this page is for HPL updates and there haven’t been no one from September.

  • Aberforth

My copy arrived from Amazon last week – I’ve dipped in and viewed the pictures so far, looking forward to a detailed read and some location visits. I’ll be taking it to next Meetup in case others have forgotten!

  • Marco

Will that book be aviable in Germany?

  • Prl

Marco, if it is on amazon, sure. For books there is no customs fee. I do it often. Any amazon site will do. Check which is the most convenient (including postage of course).

Great! I will be ordering pronto! I loved your sessions at several of the HP conferences and can’t wait to get this. Is the UK one the same as the US one? I’m trying to decide if I’m patient enough to wait until it comes out in the US!

  • At the moment, there is only one version of the book. I don’t have any information about when it will be ‘officially’ in the US, sorry. I wish I did.

I know that I haven’t been posting updates on this What’s New for a few months. I’ve been working on some page redesigns and editing little errors all over the site, none of which makes for much of a What’s New announcement.

I hope you all enjoy the book!

  • congrats Steve! I hope the bad times for you and the hp-lexicon-staff will be over, now!

  • Clock_maker

Here here Vicky, I agree. I like getting updates about what’s happening around the site and it’s very disheartening not to have very many.

  • John

Congratulations Steve! I look forward to purchasing it.

  • Beedle

Are you ready for the new canon of BEEDLE THE BARD?
-About professors of Hogwarts, as Herbert Beery of Herbology and Silvanus Kettleburn of CMC (lot of new info about him).
    – Relatives ot the Malfoys and the Dumbledores.
    – Info about previus owners of the Elder Wand.
    – Meaning of warlock.
    – About Beatrix Bloxam, or Beedle the Bard himself… new characters too, philosophers, witches…

A lot of new canon 🙂 definetly.

  • I am very excited to read the new book and yes, to discover the new canon. I’ll be taking notes and editing the Lexicon, believe me!

  • Big_Kelpie

    Congrats on the new book!
And, Steve no matter how small the updates are, it’s always nice to hear you are still working in the lexicon, so please post in “What’s New” more frequently

  • Big_Kelpie

By the way, I believe Beatrix Bloxan is probably named after Beatrix Potter, the famous children’s books author.

  • Big Ron Fan

    CONGRATS!!! for both books
And THANKS for these new books and also for the wonderful years that you have gave us through the Lexicon site.
Wish you the best for the next year and PLEASE do not “hack” or “pirate” the books it took him a lot of time (and money) to finally put them on shelves

  • Liz Mann

I don’t often get the chance to give feedback on a book direct to the author. I really liked it. It was a bit of a gem for me because I also love Britiain itself – the architecture, landscapes and history. It was also nice to hear the story of how you found Hogwarts again, I heard it the first time at Sectus. Great job, Steve.

    Not understandable, why such opinion?

  • A lot of fans check out King’s Cross station to take photos of platforms 9 and 10 that the station administration erected a sign that says “Platform 9 ¾”
