"And that complete cow Pansy Parkinson ... How she got to be a prefect when she's thicker than a concussed troll ..."
-- Hermione Granger, later delighted when Pansy was hit by an antler jinx (OP10)
The antler jinx, as the name suggests, causes the victim to sprout antlers. Pansy Parkinson, a member of the hated Inquisitorial Squad, was the victim of this jinx as Hogwarts students rebelled against their new Headmistress, Dolores Umbridge:
Filch prowled the corridors with a horsewhip ready in his hands, desperate to catch miscreants, but the problem was that there were now so many of them he never knew which way to turn. The Inquisitorial Squad was attempting to help him, but odd things kept happening to its members. Warrington of the Slytherin Quidditch team reported to the hospital wing with a horrible skin complaint that made him look as though he had been coated in cornflakes; Pansy Parkinson, to Hermione’s delight, missed all her lessons the following day as she had sprouted antlers (OP30).
References from the canon
- Pansy Parkinson was hit with this spell and had to miss some classes (OP30).
Jinxes and hexes
- Pansy Parkinson was leader of a gang of Slytherin girl bullies who constantly taunted Hermione, and laughed when Draco Malfoy accidentally made her teeth grow larger (GF18). Hermione felt "delight" when Pansy was targeted for being part of the Inquisitorial Squad and had sprouted antlers. The antler jinx might be drawing a parallel to James Potter, leader of his own gang of Marauders and known as "Prongs" because he was a stag Animagus.
