- The silver lynx Patronus appeared on the dance floor at Bill and Fleur's wedding near the Burrow to warn them that the Ministry had fallen to Voldemort, and Minister for Magic Rufus Scrimgeour was dead (DH8). It spoke in the same slow way as Kingsley Shacklebolt.
- Dumbledore invented the use of the Patronus as messenger, and taught it to the members of the Order of the Phoenix, according to the author (JKR)

Etymology
From Latin lynx (source of Spanish, Portuguese, Italian lince), from Greek lyngz, perhaps from leuk- "light" - a reference to the animals eyes glowing in the dark.
