Snape taunted and separated Harry from Hermione because of a Rita Skeeter article about their love lives and alleged triangle with Viktor Krum. Then Snape accused Harry of stealing ingredients from his personal stores, and threatened him with Veritaserum for lying. Eventually Igor Karkaroff entered the classroom and showed Snape the Dark Mark on his arm while Harry eavesdropped (GF27).
