Paris

Paris, France, is one of the largest and most famous cities in the world. It is known for its art and culture as well as fine cuisine.

The French Ministry of Magic, the Ministère des Affaires Magiques, can be accessed by means of a birdcage elevator in the small group of trees in a square in the Place de Furstemberg. It is decorated in Art Nouveau style and features a domed ceiling showing constellations of stars.

Paris is also the location of a magically-hidden wizard street called the Place Cachée, where shops and restaurants cater to witches and wizards. The Circus Arcanus performed in the Place Cachée in early 1927. However, a mishap during the performance of the Snake Girl resulted in the Circus leaving town abruptly (CG).

In the late 1920s, Nicolas Flamel lived in a house on the Rue de Montmorency in Paris (CG).

Gladrags Wizardwear has a location in Paris (along with London and Hogsmeade) (GF8).

Notes

Despite being one of the largest and most famous cities in the world, Paris is rarely mentioned as a part of the wizarding world, though presumably it is as significant for French wizards as London is for their British counterparts.

The real-life Nicolas Flamel also lived in Paris - and in an early, handwritten version of PS, Rowling mentioned that Flamel was spotted at the opera in Paris in 1762 - though this line never made it into the final book (JKR).
