Books and Writing Creatures

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is commissioned

Augustus Worme of Obscurus Books commissions the young Newt Scamander to write a guide of magical beasts. The result is Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, first published in 1927, a book which has been an approved Hogwarts ever since and gone into 52 editions.

Scamander takes at the opportunity to write a reference book to magical creatures eagerly, out of both enthusiasm for the topic and the money to supplement the meager salary he earned as a low-level employee at the Ministry of Magic. In the eight years between the book’s commission and first publication, Scamander travelled the world in search of undiscovered magical species.
