Divination classroom

"How nice to see you in the physical world at last." -- Sybill Trelawney

Divination classroom

The Divination classroom is located at the base of the North Tower. It is accessed through a circular trap door, which releases a silver ladder. It is the “strangest-looking classroom” that Harry had ever seen, looking “like a cross between someone’s attic and an old-fashioned teashop” (PA6). The classroom is round and contains about “twenty small, circular table”, which are surrounded by “chintz armchairs and fat little pouffes.” During Harry’s first lesson, the room is filled wit “dim, crimson light” as the window curtains are drawn and red scarves were draped over the lamps. There are shelves running around the walls, which hold feathers, candles, cards, crystal balls and teacups. It is “stiflingly warm” due to the fireplace being lit to heat “a large copper kettle”, which gives off a “sickly” perfume (PA6).

"They climbed the last few steps and emerged onto a tiny landing; Ron nudged Harry and pointed at the ceiling where there was a circular trap door with a brass plaque on it. 'Sybill Trelawney, Divination teacher', read Harry."
