The punching telescope is a trick telescope that when squeezed emits a cloud of black smoke, a bang, and a tiny fist springs out to give the user a black eye.
When Harry told Ron & Hermione about the prophecy, Hermione squeezed the telescope from worry and surprise and it punched her (HBP5).

Notes
Hermione jinxing Marietta's face is a highly controversial move of the character's. Interestingly, Hermione worries if the punching telescope's injury will ever come off, reminiscent of Marietta not losing the spots on her face.
