Exploring the Muggle World

"A Fair Deal for Wizards Who Deal Fair with Muggles."
-- Cornelius Fudge's campaign slogan (DP)

Muggles, as non-magical folk are called by wizards, are "not as stupid as we think," or so a report recently published in the Daily Prophet proclaimed. Many witches and wizards find this concept hard to accept. However, since the wizarding community is actually very small, the Muggle civilization within which they live is vitally important to their well-being. The Order of Merlin was established by the great wizard Merlin hundreds of years ago to reward those who exemplified that good will (fw). More recently, Cornelius Fudge was elected to the post of Minister for Magic on a pro-Muggle platform (DP).

Unfortunately, many in witches and wizards have never accepted the importance of their relationship with the Muggles living around them. Some Wizarding folk as young people study Muggles at Hogwarts, but many live their lives baffled by the differences. Hooligans in the wizarding world cruelly engage in 'Muggle baiting.' In extreme cases, some have proposed classifying Muggles as 'beasts' or even allowing Muggle hunting! These attitudes are more than unfortunate...they threaten the very existence of the wizarding world.
