Delphi

Delphi

Delphi is a very unusual and mysterious young woman. She claims to be the niece and caretaker of Amos Diggory, now a lonely widower in St. Oswald’s, and calls herself Delphi (short for Delphini) Diggory. She lives at St. Oswald’s Home for Old Witches and Wizards, in a room near Amos’s room. In reality, she is far more sinister, a daughter of evil.

Family

Delphi was raised by Euphemia Rowle, although she was no direct relation. As the daughter of Bellatrix Lestrange, Delphi was the niece of Andromeda and Narcissa Malfoy and cousin of Draco Malfoy. As daughter of Tom Marvolo Riddle, she is the granddaughter of Merope Gaunt and of Tom Riddle Sr. of Little Hangleton.

Skills

Flying, ability to speak Parseltongue, using "Unforgivable" curses, expert at duelling.

Commentary

Etymology

Delphi is the name of a town in Greece, famous in ancient times for being the location of an oracle which would be consulted before major decisions.

This entry looks very incomplete. There are more facts even in the brief script.
Her name is Delphini, not Delphi.

Her skills are not mentioned: flying, parseltongue, flawless Unforgivables. Herdueling skills are better than those of DMLE chief, famous Harry Potter.
Delphini was born in Malfoy Manor before the battle of Hogwarts. Most likely she was born in February-March 1998, as her mother participated in the battle
of 7 Potters at the end of July 1997, and during Easter holidays 1998 Bellatrix was not pregnant anymore. Unless Delphi was born in summer 1997, as Bellartix
was also missing from action from July 1996 to July 1997, most noticeably from the Astronomy Tower scene in June 1997. She may have birthed
two childtren, in fact, there was enough time for it:)

It was Rodolphus Lestrange who at some point told her of her parentage and about the prophecy, according to which she was destined to bring the Dark Lord
    back.

And well, in the Voldemort timeline she is “the Augurey of the Dark Lord” and practically rules Britain. Both Malfoy, chief of DMLE, and Umbridge, Headmistress of Hogwarts, answer to her – and she is only 22.

Delphi is an interesting character, and for me she is the best thing that has happened in the “new canon” story. It was so sad that the Slytherin parselmouths seemed to die out. But here she is! Also for me she was no big surprise: I believe for most grown-up readers it was pretty obvious from the 7th book that Bellatrix was Voldemort’s lover even if not
his love. Hints were everywhere. For all we know they could have been lovers for 30 years. And Voldemort may have hinted at a child, saying at the cemetery
that the Lestranges would be rewarded beyond their wildest dreams.

I greatly appreciate your work on the new site. The old one was the best source on HP ever – I loved it. I hope the new one will soon be as excellent.
    Cheers, Gordis

    • You are absolutely correct. Some of the major entries from Cursed Child have been placed on hold until we can work out how to have the site parse the timelines. But I really appreciate your concise listing of canon facts here. I’ll edit them into the entry asap.

ps You’d make a great editor!

Thank you for the reply and for the compliment!
I have forgotten to mention another interesting question: Delphi’s education. Was she home schooled by Rowles? I believe it to be highly unlikely, as it is cheaper to sent the girl to one of the schools than to find high quality private teachers. And I think Euphemia was glad to get rid of her ward already at 11. Delphi didn’t go to Hogwarts, she said, but she did mention “her shool” at least once. I think she has attended one of the schools abroad, most likely Durmstrang – because when needed, she produces two Durmstrang robes fit for 14 years-old boys in no time. Likely they are her own robes from the last year.
And wandless magic – it is amazing, she seems to fight 5 adult wizards and two boys without a wand… That is the impression one gets from the script at least.
