“As our Mandrakes are only seedlings, their cries won’t kill yet, ...However, they will knock you out for several hours, and as I’m sure none of you want to miss your first day back, make sure your earmuffs are securely in place while you work."
-- Professor Sprout (CS6)
"I haven't blushed so much since Madame Pomfrey told me she liked my new earmuffs."
-- Albus Dumbledore (PS1)
Equipment for Herbology class.
Potted Plot Hole: In the Chamber of Secrets movie, Neville Longbottom faints during Herbology class when a baby Mandrake starts screaming. No one else passes out, even though Seamus Finnegan and everyone else can apparently hear both the screaming of the plant and the words of Professor Sprout. So was Neville really "neglecting his ear muffs" or were all the ear muffs just not working? If Neville didn't faint from the Mandrake, then what happened? Actually, the ear muffs might have helped him more later when those Cornish pixes grabbed him by the ears and hung him from the chandelier. (CS/f)
