Chestnut

"...chestnut is attracted to witches and wizards who are skilled tamers of magical beasts, those who possess great gifts in Herbology, and those who are natural fliers."
-- Mr. Ollivander (Pm)

A wand wood (Pm).

  • A chestnut wand varies greatly depending on the core (Pm).
  • Chestnut wood is "attracted" to those with natural talents such as flying, taming wild creatures, or working with plants (Pm).
  • Three Heads of the Wizengamot had chestnut and unicorn wands, a combination associated with lovers of justice (Pm).
  • Mr. Ollivander was kidnapped and forced to make a wand for Wormtail, aka Peter Pettigrew, "chestnut and dragon heartstring. Nine-and-a-quarter inches...Brittle," which Ron disarmed Wormtail at Malfoy Manor and kept as his own (DH23,DH24). This was Ron's third wand, the first being ash with unicorn hair inherited from Charlie Weasley, and the second, willow with unicorn hair that he bought from Mr. Ollivander.
