Commentary

Etymology

Old French vigne "vine, vinyard"

Notes

In Christian symbolism, the vine represents Jesus Christ, known in the New Testament as "The True Vine." Grapes and wine symbolize the blood of Christ, and a vineyard, the church members. source: Christian Plant Sybolism

In terms of wands, is interesting that Viktor Krum had a crush on Hermione during the Triwizard Tournament. Her wand is vine and therefore connected to grapes and wine, and his hornbeam wand is connected to wine in the text. Mr. Ollivander poured wine from Krum's wand to test it for the Triwizard Tournament (GF18). Igor Karkaroff also offered Krum some mulled wine back on the Durmstrang ship (GF16) It seems like literary matchmaking.
